4th Arunachal Literature Festival Starts in Rajiv Gandhi University

NAMSAI: The 4th Arunachal Literature Festival, began on the campus of Rajiv Gandhi University on Thursday. It is being organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) of Arunachal Pradesh and the Arunachal Pradesh Literary Society (APLS).

The event aims to generate awareness and teach the importance of literature to the general public. It also tries to encourage and celebrate writers and poets, specially the emerging ones from the state.

The theme for this edition of the festival is 'Building bridges through literature'. And the main focus remains on 'reading, creative thinking and expressions'. A series of interactive sessions aimed at literature development is also part of the event.

"It is aimed at facilitating interface between the local writers and established writers and authors, thereby encouraging budding talents to enhance their skills in creative writing, besides providing them a platform to express themselves in terms of creativity and literature," mentioned a report.

Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein was present in the opening ceremony held in Multipurpose Cultural Hall. Speaking on the occasion he highlighted the importance of documenting the rich oral literature of different tribes across the state and the need of its preservation and prosperity.

Several noted writers, poets and literature lovers from Arunachal Pradesh and outside Are attending this event. Budding writers and established publishers are also part of this gathering.

"Although, owing to its remote location, Arunachal Pradesh is a late starter in education as well as in the journey of development, there is no dearth of talents, and the state is catching up with other states in all fields," said Chowna Mein.

Laisam Simai, the advisor to the Minister of Tourism in Arunachal Pradesh was also present in the event. He spoke about the need to inculcate the habits of reading and writing in the younger generations of the state.

Entrusting the task of researching and documenting the history of the Khampti tribe to the History Department of the university, he expressed the need to "translate the rich local literature (dialects) in Hindi or English for the people to understand, besides the poetic form of Khampti literature into prose format for better expression."

He also applauded the efforts of APLS in this direction.
